Deepika Padukone appeared on Bigg Boss 11 on Sunday night, and amidst all the Padmavati promotions, she took a sly chance to reiterate that she has no scenes with Ranveer Singh (who plays Alauddin Khilji) in the movie.
Host Salman Khan pointed out that it was her third movie with Singh, to which Padukone replied, saying:
It is strange because we are there in the movie, but have not worked together as there are no scenes (with both actors together in the frame).
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Padmavati has come into massive controversy recently with the Rajput community asking for the film to be pre-censored as they suspect the film portrays a romance angle between Khilji and Rani Padmavati, something they consider to be an attack on their Rajput pride.
The Rajput Karni Sena, which recently vandalised a cinema hall in Kota as protest against the film, has also called for a nationwide bandh on 1 December against the release of the film.
Padukone’s statement on the show is a clarification that the two actors, who play the characters in question, do not have any scenes together in the film, implying that there is no angle that would tarnish the Rajput queen’s pride.
The film, which was expected to release on 1 December, is now likely to see a delayed release after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sent the film’s application for certification back, saying it was “incomplete”.
