Salman Khan’s latest film Bharat has crossed Rs 100 crore on Saturday, its 4th day of release. The Ali Abbas Zafar directed film, which released on Wednesday to coincide with Eid, has made a total collection of Rs. 122.20 crore at the ticket counters in India so far. The film which also stars Katrina Kaif and Sunil Grover, earned Rs 22.20 crore on Friday and Rs 26.70 on Saturday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on Twitter.
“#Bharat rocks the BO... Biz jumps on Day 4... Multiplexes join the party, single screens rock-steady... Will continue its winning streak today [Sun]... Being patronised by family audience... Wed 42.30 cr, Thu 31 cr, Fri 22.20 cr, Sat 26.70 cr. Total: ₹ 122.20 cr. India biz,” he wrote.
This is Salman Khan’s 14th film to have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark and makes him the actor to have the highest number of films in the Rs 100 crore club.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, it was single screen theatres that contributed to the film’s box office collections on day 2.
Though Salman’s last two Eid releases – Tubelight and Race 3 – saw a lukewarm response at the box office, Bharat could turn Salman Khan’s luck around. With a box office collection of Rs 42.30 crore on day 1, the film is both Salman’s biggest Eid opener as well as his highest opener ever. Taran Adarsh noted that Bharat’s day 1 box office earnings have surpassed that of Tiger Zinda Hai (Rs 34.10 crore), Sultan (Rs 36.54 crore) and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs 40.35 crore).
Here’s a look at how Salman’s Eid releases have done on opening day at the box office:
Bharat, which hit theatres on 5 June, has received mixed responses from critics who have noted that the film has squandered its potential on unnecessary melodrama and badly placed jokes and song and dance sequences. Katrina Kaif and Sunil Grover’s performances, however, have been lauded.
The Quint’s Stutee Ghosh writes, “You are expected to just be grateful for the three-and-a-half wrinkles that he sports for the sake of “realism”, never once losing his swagger walk! This is Salman Khan and he can do whatever he wants to do! And what do we do? Suspend our disbelief and play along.”
Bharat is a remake of award-winning Korean film Ode to My Father. The film spans about 50 years and traces the history of India through Salman Khan's character. The actor dons various avatars through the film, including that of a stuntman, miner and naval officer, and Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani play his love interests. The film also stars Tabu, Jackie Shroff, Disha Patani and Sunil Grover.
