The sequel to the 2017 Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan is gearing up for production. While Bhumi won’t be back this time around, Ayushmann will be in stellar company thanks to his Badhaai Ho co-stars Neena Gupta and Gajrao Rao, who have now joined the cast of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.
Neena and Gajraj were a pivotal part of the massive success of Badhaai Ho and also won multiple awards for their performances in the family comedy. While Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is not a direct continuation, it continues the theme of highlighting a socially relevant yet under-discussed subject in a comedic manner.
The first film dealt with a man suffering from erectile dysfunction, Zyaada will feature Ayushmann playing a gay man who has to come out to his parents.
“Every instalment will deal with a topic that touches every person, but one that no one wants to speak about publicly. Like the first film, this one too will broach a taboo subject but with great sensitivity and light humour,” producer Aanand L Rai told Mumbai Mirror about the series and confirmed the casting.
A source told the newspaper that Neena and Gajraj loved the script and while they will again play a couple, their roles are very different from Badhaai Ho.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is set to go on the floors in August. It will be directed by Hitesh Kewalya who wrote the first entry. The film is still looking for a male actor in the role of Ayushmann’s lover.
