Since Article 15’s trailer launch, the film has been in the center of controversy. Right from Brahmin Community to the Karni sena, the film seems to offend everyone. Karni Sena even went to the extent of threatening the director, Anubhav Sinha and asking for a ban on the release. After Ayushmann Khurrana clarifying the film’s motive, now Anubhav Sinha has penned an open letter clearing the air.
The director, on Twitter, posted the open letter, captioning it, “An open letter to all offended from my film's trailer.”
Through the letter, Anubhav has condemned the rape threats to his sisters and mother and said that he forgives those who have done so. He has expressed that a movie should not be judged just by the trailer as it only shows some glimpses and not the real message of the film.
Apologising, if the trailer hurt any sentiments of certain segments of the society, the director has asked people to watch the film and then decide if it has hurt Brahmins or any other cast throughout the storyline.
Any film’s trailer does not depict its entire story. Do not judge the film by its trailer.
“Any film’s trailer does not depict its entire story. Various portions of the film are brought together to show an interesting story. Do not judge the film by its trailer. No film will attempt to disrespect any community, and I say this on behalf of my filmmaker friends as well. These protests based on such assumptions, do not just waste your time but ours as well. Coming to Article 15, the film shows no disrespect to the Brahmin community. You’ll be glad to know that many Brahmin actors and technicians have been a part of the film and we have no reason to disrespect anyone. My wife, too is a brahmin. The film has been screened for journalists in Mumbai and Delhi and reviews have been put up on the Internet too. I request journalists to assure everyone that the movie has not hurt the sentiments of Brahmin community, and neither the Rajput community. Hence I ask even the Karni sena to stay assured. If the trailer has led to creating any misconceptions, then I deeply apologise and urge you all to watch the film,” reads an excerpt from the open letter.

Anubhav Sinha’s film Article 15, which hits the theatres on Friday, has been given a U/A certificate by the CBFC after five modifications. The film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead, is based on the Badaun rape case and deals with the caste divide in the country.
