There’s no doubt about the fact that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for iconic Bollywood films like Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, Devdas and more. Now, the filmmaker is going a step ahead by taking up a social cause as the subject of his next film. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, reportedly, is working on his next script which will challenge the beauty industry.
According to a report by Filmfare, SLB’s next film will tackle the issue of colour discrimination and how the beauty industry propagates the stereotypes associated with being light and dark-skinned for its own benefit. The final draft of the script is currently in the works.
Here’s what a source told Filmfare:
“The protagonist, an ambitious achiever, is still able to hold her own and victoriously beat all odds. The movie will be a slice of life and will be a subtle take on the beauty industry and how it encourages consumers to believe that lighter skin tone leads to better opportunities in life.”
Sanjay Leela Bhansali also plans on launching a fresh face with this movie. He is also in talks with directors from the industry but hasn’t finalised anyone yet.
Considering the times we live in, this is an extremely relevant conversation. Most recently, Hrithik Roshan too faced flak for going brownface in order to play a character that belongs to the less-privileged section of the society.
Another upcoming project of Sanjay Leela Bhansali is Inshallah which will star Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt. It will be release on Eid 2020. He also plans on getting into the digital space with Heera Mandi. Heera Mandi, which was conceived as a film, is reportedly going to be turned into a web series.
