It seems like the wedding season is here to stay, what with so many reel and real weddings vying for our attention. It’s a tough job, being a netizen - so much to react to! But 5 Weddings, directed by Namrata Singh Gujral, has been in the making for a while and is unwittingly riding the wave of wedlocks in B-Town. It seems a tad outmoded with the passage of time.
Another trailer featuring Nargis Fakhri, Rajkummar Rao, Bo Derek and Candy Clark dropped and netizens still have the same questions, the prominent one being what made the Newton actor Rajkummar Rao choose this film?
Rao plays a cop that Fakhri falls for. She is an international journalist who is in India to write about Indian weddings. The trailer hints at a breezy film but there’s a sudden tonal shift within the trailer - when the plot seems to veer towards a ‘hijra’ with mawkish and heavy-handed undertones. Fakhri’s character appears to be the typically ignorant NRI.
The film will mark Fakhri’s return to screen after a hiatus of few years. She’s also set to reportedly feature as an Afghan girl who runs an NGO in Sanjay Dutt’s upcoming Torbaaz.
5 Weddings is set to release on 21 September.
