Like every other cinema, India’s Hindi cinema, or Bollywood, has a bunch of movies that managed to acquire cult status in their time and are remembered even today. In some ways, they form the backbone of Bollywood. And Hum Saath-Saath Hain was definitely one of them.
Hum Saath-Saath Hain released on 5 November 1999 and starred an ensemble cast that included Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Mohnish Bahl, Neelam Kothari, Alok Nath, Reema Lagoo, and Shakti Kapoor. It was directed by Sooraj Barjatya. The film may or may not have aged well but even today, it remains as iconic as ever. And has a special place in the hearts of everyone who grew up on a heavy doze of Bollywood.
In many ways, Hum Saath-Saath Hain was brown culture at its peak. Song-and-dance picnics, lively family meals, joint family existence, and the concept of matrimony were at its core. In short, the film is a crash course in traditional Indian family values. Things that do not resonate with the youth of today but somehow, the movie’s still considered special.
As Hum Saath-Saath Hain turns 20, here’s revisiting some of its most iconic scenes. From Vinod and Sapna’s perky chemistry (Saif Ali Khan and Karisma Kapoor) to Prem and Preeti’s blossoming romance (Salman Khan and Sonali Bendre), here are some of its best scenes picked to let you enjoy the film all over again without having to sit for three hours.
