Both films tell unusual stories, but by the look of the box office figures of the first day, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor’s 102 Not Out seem to be putting a dampener on Rajkummar Rao-starrer Omerta.
102 Not Out opened to lukewarm reception going to strong word-of-mouth at Rs 3.52 crore. Film analyst Taran Adarsh feels it will only get better for the Umesh Shukla film over the weekend.
Hansal Mehta’s Omerta, which tells the story of terrorist Omar Saeed Shaikh, on the other hand has not been received too warmly. It raked in Rs 54 lakh on day 1 at the box office.
102 Not Out is a heartwarming tale about a “cool” father and an “old-school” son. Amitabh, the centenarian wants to break the world record of being the oldest man alive, which is held by a 118-year-old Chinese man. And he plans to do it by putting his son - Rishi - in an old age home.
Omerta on the other hand, is a gruesome true tale of criminal mastermind, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and his journey as a radical and hardened criminal committing atrocities in the name of religion.
