Students at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA are taking A.R. Rahman’s melodies to a whole new high.
As a tribute to the Indian composer and multi-instrumentalist who has redefined contemporary film music in India, this bunch of incredible singers and musicians from around the world have created chilling renditions of Rahman’s Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera from Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades (2004) and Jiya Jale from Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se (1998).
Berklee College of Music conferred Rahman an honorary doctorate degree in 2014 for his achievements towards putting Indian melodies on the global map.
Berklee India Exchange, a new initiative co-founded by two Indian Berklee alums, Annette Philip and Clint Valladares, helps raise a scholarship fund in Rahman’s name for Indian students to enrol at the prestigious institution.
