Emraan Hashmi’s Azhar biopic, which released on Friday last week, had just about an average weekend at the box office. The critics haven’t been very kind and most of the film’s reviews said that Azhar was nothing more than a PR exercise in favour of former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin.
The film’s box office collections have been rather dismal- Fri: 6.30 Cr; Sat: 7 Cr and Sun: 7.50 Cr, amounting to a weekend total of Rs 20.80 Cr (net) in India. The film has a long way to go, to reach ‘hit’ status. And with the first weekend gone by, that seems to be a tough job.
