Indo-British filmmaker Asif Kapadia’s Amy is the winner of the Best Documentary Feature at Oscar 2016. It is a poignant documentary on late British singer Amy Winehouse.
Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at the age of 27, following a battle with drug and alcohol.
The film has been critics favourite since making its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year. Though the singer’s father Mitch has distanced himself from the documentary, calling it a disappointment. Kapadia has also recently won the Bafta for Amy.
Kapadia’s documentary saw competition from Cartel Land, The Look of Silence, What Happened Miss Simone? and Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom.
