It seems like Anushka Sharma is really enjoying her newfound role as a producer. If industry chatter is to be believed, the actress who turned producer with NH10 this year, is set to don the producer’s fedora again.
The actress is backing Navdeep Singh’s next venture, tentatively titled Canneda.
There are a few ideas that we are toying with currently for my next film. But for the moment, Canneda seems to be the most interesting one, and we are most probably going ahead with it.
– Navdeep Singh, Director
Is Anushka backing it again?
We have been discussing it. And why not? We’ve had a great working relationship in NH10.
– Navdeep Singh, Director
Navdeep made his debut with Manorama Six Feet Under in 2007, a noir thriller featuring Abhay Deol, Raima Sen and Gul Panag in the lead roles. The film was critically acclaimed but failed to excite the box office. Post that, he went through a long struggle to make his second feature. A zombie comedy, Shaadi Of The Dead, which was later renamed as Rock The Shaadi, was in the news for quite some time as India’s first zombie film in the making. But it failed to see the light of the day. Finally, Anushka Sharma backed NH10, an edge-of-the-seat thriller, starring Neil Bhoopalam and Darshan Kumar alongside Sharma. The film emerged as a big hit at the ticket window. So, it’s quite obvious for Anushka and Navdeep to collaborate again, with a sharp eye on another future success.
Anushka set up ‘Clean Slate Films’ along with her brother to make films that is off the cuff of mainstream Hindi cinema. Their second film, Canneda, according to the buzz, is a gangster film involving Punjabis in Canada. It will be interesting to see how they explore violence outside India after depicting cruel realities of north India in their first film. For the uninitiated, Canneda is the proverbial pronunciation of Canada by the Punjabis.
