Angelina Jolie Slams Trump’s Ban, Pleads for a Passionate America

In an editorial for The New York Times, Angelina Jolie has spoken out against US President Donald Trump’s immigration ban against seven Muslim-majority countries.

“Americans have shed blood to defend the idea that human rights transcend culture, geography, ethnicity and religion,” said Jolie who is the mother of six children of foreign origin.

Jolie emphasized on the need to find a way to secure the American borders for the citizen’s safety based on facts rather than fear.

We must never allow our values to become the collateral damage of a search for greater security. Shutting our door to refugees or discriminating among them is not our way, and does not make us safer.

The actress argues with facts on how refugees are put under intense scrutiny before being admitted in the country.

Refugees are in fact subject to the highest level of screening of any category of traveler to the United States.

A host of Hollywood celebrities including Ashton Kutcher, Meryl Streep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus among others have categorically denounced Trump’s ban.

Jolie, 41, has received an honorary Oscar for her humanitarian work. Last year, she visited refugee camps in Lebanon and Greece, meeting with families fleeing war in the Middle East.

The actress warned that by "implying Muslims are less worthy of protection, we fuel extremism abroad."
