Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has been in the eye of a political storm thanks to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The party’s spokesperson Sandeep Deshpande agreed to answer some of our crucial questions in a live Facebook chat, but all he really did was to bring out his (and his party’s) main agenda, dadagiri. So we rewind to some of his comments which show off the party’s ‘might is right’ attitude, and a mindset that is hell bent upon exploding the current situation between India and Pakistan, unwilling to let go of a wealthy and well known bait like Karan Johar.
Feel The Pinch
'Pinch’ was the word of the day. All MNS really wants to do is pinch Pakistan and its people on behalf of our entire nation. For MNS ‘pinch’ is the new ‘punch’. But by threatening to vandalise Indian theatres and beating up filmmakers like Karan Johar, it is hardly going to achieve its goal. Fawad Khan and other artistes from across the border don’t have much to lose besides a few films. But the Indian film fraternity will lose money, property and face.
Pakistani artistes and people should feel a pinch so that they feel ‘see my country is a terrorist’. Then only the pressure will build up in Pakistan against their government.Sandeep Deshpande, MNS Leader
Pakistani Artists Don’t Have Valid Work Visas
MNS must’ve looked at Fawad Khan’s passport with its own eyes to say so convincingly that he was working here illegally on a tourist visa. Or, maybe our border security agencies are too naive for a mastermind like Fawad. Will famous people like him and Karan Johar take such a big risk with all the media glare they’re constantly surrounded by? My question is this - if Fawad does have a valid visa, will that be enough for MNS drop this drama?
My Way Or The Highway
Mr Deshpande and his MNS bhailog are not only threatening Indian filmmakers, but also the Indian government. Basically, they’ll request a few times (for the sake of courtesy), but if you don’t agree and fall in line soon enough, these fearless pseudo nationalists will break and shatter as they please.
We’ve given several representations to the government saying that please don’t allow Pakistani artistes to work here. Don’t give them visas at all. We’ve done all sorts of things. But despite that, if the government does not want to act upon it, what choice is left with us? We want to set an example, that if you will give work to a Pakistani artiste, you will not be allowed to make films here. So far we’ve been trying to make them understand nicely, but no one understands polite language. So now we’re using the language they understand. And you can see the results. Karan Johar released a video, what took him so long?Sandeep Deshpande
Karan Johar Should Do A Balidaan For India
This was my most favourite part of the entire MNS spiel I happened to sit through. Mr Deshpande doesn’t have Rs 1 crore lying around currently, but he confidently says that if he did, he would gladly give it up for a national cause. So, what’s the big deal about Karan Johar losing some money for his country, he asks? Hmm...no big deal sir. Maybe you could give him the Rs 50 crore he’s spent on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and come out as the ultimate champion. That way for once, MNS might actually so something constructive.
Non-Marathis and Pakistanis: Kinda the Same Thing
MNS has always been hostile to non-Marathi speaking migrants, who they see as a burden on the resources and job opportunities in the state that are the first right of every Marathi manoos. They tried their best to chase out people from Bihar and UP from the state. Mr Deshpande sees Pakistanis who are getting medical treatment in India as a menace too. What about humanitarian grounds you ask? ‘What was humane about the 26/11 attacks?’ comes his counter question. Clearly, there’s no difference between an ill person and a terrorist?
If Pakistan can give money for terrorist activities, can’t they build a good hospital for their own people?Sandeep Deshpande
All That MNS Wants To Do Is Beat Up Sombody
This is what a cold, hard dhamki looks like. Sandeep Deshpande challenges Mumbai Police, CM Devendra Fadnavis and the country’s judiciary saying that he doesn’t care about being on the wrong side of the law, because he’s ready to face the consequences. I’m still baffled by this statement. This unabashed fearlessness of the law is scary, and in my opinion, it’s not very different from the terrorism we’re blaming our neighbour for.
Democracy, What The F*ck Is That?
Wait, what? It is democratic to be violent? Mr Deshpande sure thinks so. He is convinced that it is his right to agitate violently. This statement is ironically followed by “main pagal nahin hoon!”
Karan Johar shouldn’t be worried honestly, but his anxiety is understandable. With Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’s assurances to give the film a peaceful nationwide release, the likes of Mr Deshpande will probably turn out to nothing but all gas. And as far as we’re concerned, Pakistani artistes are hardly any damage as compared to this bunch of goons.
