Charmian Carr, the actress who played the eldest von Trapp daughter Liesl in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music (1965) passed away at the age of 73 in Los Angeles.
Who can forget the romantic waltz in a gazebo between Liesl and Rolf in The Sound of Music? And the popular track I Am Sixteen Going on Seventeen... made Carr famous for life.
According to reports, the actress was suffering from a rare form of dementia and she breathed her last in Woodland Hills, California.
After leaving the film industry, Carr ran an interior design firm in California. She even wrote two books on her experience - Forever Liesl and Letters to Liesl.
Her Sound of Music co-stars and friends took to Twitter to pay their condolences.
Charmian was 21 when she played Liesl in The Sound of Music, but she will forever remain ‘16 going on 17’ in our hearts.
