Best known for writing dialogues in Kamal Haasan’s Papanasam and Mani Ratnam’s Kadal, writer Jeyamohan, who is now teaming up with Shankar for the first time in his Rajinikanth starrer magnum-opus Robot 2 (or2.0), has spilled the beans on the characters played by Akshay Kumar and Chitti in the film.

I finished my work on 2.0 a few months back itself. We just had few enhancements left to be done on the screenplay. Due to some international financial regulations and contractual contradictions, Arnold Schwarzengger, who was supposed to play the antagonist, was dropped from the project. Now Akshay Kumar is playing the role. It is a multifaceted character conceived while keeping in mind a huge Tamil star, who eventually couldn’t come on board. With a mighty antagonist on board, 2.0 will be more stimulating than its Part 1.

I feel absolutely heartened to see Rajinikanth working on two films simultaneously, after complete recovery from his health issues. Along with Chitti’s idiosyncratic talents, its distinctive traits like mischief, speed and rage have been retained and his character has been strengthened. The screenplay structure in Shankar’s films have always followed an inimitable pattern, despite its concise nature. According to me, Anniyan is Shankar’s best writing ever. But now, I feel 2.0 will outshine Anniyan. I’m a big fan of science fiction and James Bond movies. 2.0 has excited the kid in me and I feel gratified to be a part of this project.

Pegged at a whopping budget of Rs 350 Crores, making it Indian’s most expensive project, 2.0 is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and features an experienced crew from across the globe. Amy Jackson plays the female lead. While AR Rahman composes the film’s music, Nirav Shah wields the camera.
