Tamil filmmaker Jayam Raja’s latest movie Thani Oruvan has made top stars in Tollywood and Bollywood sit up and take notice and vie for the film’s remake rights.
A few days back, Raja confirmed that Salman Khan’s team is mighty impressed with the project and is keen to remake it in Hindi. “Four out of last seven films of Salman Khan have been remakes of commercially and critically acclaimed Telugu and Malayalam films. Salman’s special affinity for remakes from southern languages is a long-known fact. There are high chances for Raja to wield the megaphone in Hindi too if the project materializes,” says a source close to the development.
Meanwhile, Telugu stars like Mahesh Babu and Ram Charan are vying for the remake rights in Telugu. While Ram Charan, son of Chiranjeevi, has already expressed his interest to star in the Telugu remake, Mahesh Babu, who has reportedly watched the film at a private screening in Hyderabad, is said to be excited about the remake since he feels it’s a ‘tailor-made script’ for his image.
“Many interested parties have already approached AGS Entertainment, the producer of the original version, in the past few days to grab the remake rights. AGS is also keen to explore the Telugu market and may produce the remake under its own banner,” says a trade insider.
Thani Oruvan revolves around the story of an IPS officer (played by Jayam Ravi) who is pitted against a greedy, self-important businessman (played by Aravind Swamy). Watch the trailer here:
