In the Allahabad Lok Sabha seat, will PM Modi be rewarded for his work in Kumbh? Or will the 'gatbandhan' weaken its sheen this election? The Quint went on-ground to gauge the political sentiment among the people of Prayagraj. Rita Bahuguna Joshi from the BJP is contesting against Rajendra Singh Patel from SP and Yogesh Shukla from the Congress. BJP had won 4 out of 5 seats in the Prayagraj Assembly. SP had won the Karchana seat in 2014, BJP's stronghold in urban regions, while SP had won in rural areas in the 2014 elections.
In this city, the Patel and Brahmin votes are decisive, and it's a possibility that Congress candidate Yogesh Shukla can emerge as a worthy challenger to BJP. Shyama Charan Gupta of BJP got maximum votes in Allahabad, defeating SP's Rewati Raman Singh by 82,000 votes. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Murli Manohar Joshi and Amitabh Bachchan, have all served as MP in Allahabad, which was considered to be a Congress stronghold from 1952 to 1971. But which way will the people of this city vote on 12 May?
