CM Adityanath Expands Cabinet Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Polls, Adds 7 New Ministers

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday, 26 September, evening expanded his cabinet, with the induction of seven new ministers.

Jitin Prasada, who joined BJP after leaving the Congress in June 2021, took oath as a Cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government. Prasada was joined by Chhatarpal Gangwar, Palturam, Sangeeta Balwant, Sanjeev Kumar, Dinesh Khatik and Dharamveer Prajapati who all took oath as ministers of state in CM Adityanath's government.

The ceremony took place at Lucknow's Raj Bhavan and the oath was administered by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel.

Uttar Pradesh can have a maximum of 60 ministers. Before the oath-taking ceremony, there were 23 cabinet ministers, nine with independent charge and 21 ministers of state.

The expansion of the Cabinet comes ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for 2022. According to reports, the induction of Prasada will consolidate the Brahmin votes for the BJP in the upcoming election.
