In a close reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday declared that Uttar Pradesh can do better without an “outside” leader. Vadra, who was campaigning for the first time this election season, added that Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh were the “true sons of UP”.

In a rather ‘filmy’ reference, her brother and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, compared PM Modi’s promise of “acche din” to Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge . PM Modi, Gandhi asserts, is a big filmmaker, whose DDLJ sequel turned into Sholay’s Gabbar.

Both the Gandhi scions accused Modi of making grand promises in Varanasi, from where the PM was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014. In his electoral campaign, Modi had promised a slew of projects for Varanasi, while calling himself the “son of Benaras.”
