Priyanka Gandhi addressed her first election rally in Uttar Pradesh on Friday when Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi launched the poll campaign in the family pocket borough of Raebareli.

Priyanka took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comment that he is the "adopted son" of Uttar Pradesh. She questioned why the state needs an "adopted son" when it has own sons.

The Prime Minister said he is the “adopted son” of UP and he will work towards the state’s development. But does UP need to adopt someone for its development? Every youth in the state can become a politician and develop the state.

Rahul Gandhi addressed two rallies in Raebareli town and Maharajganj in support of party candidate Aditi Singh.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi represents Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha, while Rahul is MP from neighbouring Amethi.

Sonia has stayed away from poll campaign so far but might address rallies in the constituency on 18 February.

Assembly constituencies under Amethi and Rae Bareli go to polls in the 4th and 5th phase of polling in the state on 23-27 February.

Congress will be contesting in a total of 105 seats in UP, with its ally Samajwadi Party contesting from 298 out of a total of 403 seats.
