Residents of two villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district have resolved to boycott polls, owing to the lack of motorable roads in the area. School students say they are afraid to use the five-kilometre long throughway way that leads to Atta and Bhartaul. The going becomes difficult during monsoons as cycle after cycle skids off the slippery road, hurting those who dare to ply along it.
The road is in such a pitiable state that even outsiders refuse to use it. Often, weddings arrangements have to be changed, as the baarat refuses to walk up the entire distance. Despite repeated requests, politicians have not paid any attention or spared any effort towards building a safe road.
