Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, as a part of BJP’s 12-rally series in the state.

Attacking past governments in Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi said that regional governments have been preventing development policies to be implemented in the state.

He said that BJP’s fight in UP is against ‘SCAM - Samajwadi Congress Akhilesh Mayawati.’

Speaking on the issue of arrears of sugarcane farmers, Modi said that if BJP is Elected in UP, sugarcane farmers will be paid in 14 days.

UP chief minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav has hit back at Modi’s ‘SCAM’ comment and said,

We need to save the country from SCAM, especially those whose names stand for A and M. We have to save the country from Amit Shah and Modi.

PM Modi also attacked Congress on their stance on demonetisation and said,

Congress was against notebandi, but I want to ask what is the reason that Rs 150 crore was found in the house of a Congress minister in Karnataka? What is the reason that he has not been removed? The decision to demonetise on 8 November wasn’t easy, but I knew that money will be found.

Speaking on surgical strikes, PM Modi in Meerut said,

Do people speaking against surgical strikes have a right to do politics in the name of the country? An elderly Sikh man came to me and said, “I have one wish, let me go to Pakistan’s border and give me an opportunity to conduct a surgical strike.”

Prime Minister Modi made a reference to the Yadav family feud in his rally in Meerut when he said,

How can you do politics for 24 hours? Such people first think of their families, and then of power. How can they change Uttar Pradesh’s destiny?

Commenting on the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, he said

For forty years, the government has hoodwinking soldiers. To honour those who sacrificed their lives for the country, we have implemented OROP.
