Days after she was denied ticket to contest from Bengaluru South in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Tejaswini Ananth Kumar was appointed as Karnataka vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
State BJP President BS Yeddyurappa on Tuesday, 2 April, took to Twitter to make the announcement.
This comes after party workers staged protests against Tejasvi’s nomination for the seat, and ahead of BJP President Amit Shah’s stopover later today, to address a rally.
When Tejasvi Was Chosen Over Tejaswini
Seated next to a portrait of her late husband Ananth Kumar, on Tuesday, 26 March, Tejaswini gave statements to media on the party choosing 28-year-old Tejasvi Surya as the candidate for Bengaluru South over her. The Lok Sabha constituency was held by Kumar when he passed away in 2018.
She insisted she will abide by the party’s decision, even as upset party workers were seen chanting, ‘Go back, Surya’ outside her residence.
The most conspicuous sign of disgruntlement came from the three senior BJP MLAs from the Bengaluru South. Out of the eight Assembly segments constituting Bengaluru South parliamentary constituency, the BJP had won five in the 2018.
However, when Tejasvi submitted his nomination, out of these five, only two BJP MLAs were present – one of them was Tejasvi’s uncle and Basavangudi MLA, Ravi Subramanya.
