Disgruntled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Shatrughan Sinha said he will join the Congress party on 6 April, after he was denied a ticket from Patna Sahib by the BJP.
Sinha met Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, 28 March, and speaking to the media after the meet, he said, “Joining will happen soon, we will give you positive news during Navratri.”
Congress Spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil tweeted saying Sinha will formally join the Congress on 6 April.
The development comes after the saffron party gave a ticket to Union Minister Ravi Shankar instead of Sinha, who is a sitting MP from the seat.
Sinha has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and his governance.
Sinha has also openly criticised the Modi government for demonetisation, and the implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST).
Sinha hasn’t stopped at criticising Modi, he has also praised Rahul Gandhi on various occasions. The most recent being the ‘masterstroke’ reference after Gandhi announced the Minimum Income Guarantee scheme.
“It's a masterstroke by the ‘master of situation’, Rahul Gandhi – declaring Minimum Income Guarantee scheme. It has rattled our people so much that some of our prominent people had to rush for a press conference, calling the whole declaration/ announcement ‘chhal kapat’,” Sinha had tweeted.
