The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday, 10 May, sent a legal notice to BJP and it’s East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir over allegations that he had distributed derogatory and casteist pamphlets against the party’s Atishi.
The AAP has sought an apology from them in writing and asked them to publish the same 'along with true and correct facts' in newspapers, within 24 hrs.
This comes a day after Gambhir sent a defamation notice to Atishi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia over AAP’s allegations.
The cricketer-turned-politician had stated earlier on Thursday that he would definitely file a defamation case against them.
Addressing a press conference earlier in the day, Atishi broke down, stating that the pamphlet has shown how low the BJP can stoop.
The pamphlet says that Atishi is a “good example of mixed breed,” was married to a “beef eater” and that she was “caught red handed while having sex in a compromising position with another teacher.”
It also claims that “Atishi will also give birth to Sisodia’s son.”
Gambhir, denying the allegations, had said that he will withdraw his candidature if proven guilty and had put the onus of the pamphlet on Kejirwal.
“I will definitely file a defamation case against them. You can't tarnish someone's image just like that, if you don't have the proof. I have never given a negative statement against anyone so far in my election campaigning,” Gambhir had said in an interview to ANI before sending the notice to the three AAP members.
