Hold J&K Assembly Polls After Nomads Return to Plains: State BJP Unit
The BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit on Tuesday said assembly elections should be held in November after over 30 lakh nomads return from the state's high-altitude areas to the plains. "We want that elections should be held in J&K in November this year. It should be held after the return of Gujjars and Bakerwals back to the plains from the upper reaches of the state. It is the period of November," state BJP general secretary Ashok Koul told reporters.
He said the party does not favour immediate elections in the state.
Though, the party is not in favour of any delays in the polls, but at the same time, it doesn't want that a huge population of nomads are deprived of their right to vote, Koul said.
Rahul Gandhi Moves to Italy Whenever There Is Crisis in India: Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday attacked Congress president Rahul Gandhi, alleging that whenever there is a crisis in the country he "moves to Italy".
The chief minister addressed rallies in Ballia, Bansgaon, Khajani, Hata and Doheriya on Tuesday, ahead of the seventh and final phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections on 19 May.
"Whenever there is a crisis in the country, Rahul moves to Italy," he said, alluding to the Congress chief's mother Sonia Gandhi's Italian origins.
"If Congress' 'Shehjadi' (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) and (her brother) Rahul have nothing to do with the people of our country, then they should better move to Italy and ask for votes there," Adityanath said.
EC Orders Fresh Polling in 34 Booths in 10 Odisha Districts
The Election Commission of India has ordered fresh polling in 34 booths in ten districts including three in Puri district on 19 May, an official said Tuesday.
Puri district has been worst hit by the cyclone Fani which made a landfall near Puri town on 3 May.
"... The ECI has directed to hold fresh poll on 19.05.2019 (Sunday) in following polling stations for simultaneous General Election to Lok Sabha and Odisha Legislative Assembly....," Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Kumar said in a letter to the district election officers and collectors of ten districts.
The fresh polls will be held in different assembly segments in the districts of Cuttack, Deogarh, Puri, Angul, Keonjhar, Khurda, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur, he said.
EC Notice to 3 Media Houses for Publishing Poll Survey Result
The Election Commission on Tuesday, sought explanation from three media houses for allegedly publishing a survey "predicting results" of Lok Sabha elections.
They have been given 48 hours to respond to the notice, the ECI said.
