Rebutting the recent comment made by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, sources close to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot have claimed that he spent only a fraction of his time campaigning for son Vaibhav Gehlot, who was contesting on a Congress ticket in the Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Gehlot came under fire after Rahul Gandhi at the CWC meet had blamed some leaders for putting their sons above the party and reportedly expressed unhappiness at the Rajasthan CM spending a week in Jodhpur to campaign for his son and neglecting the state. Vaibhav, who was making his political debut from Jodhpur against sitting MP and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, lost by over 3 lakh votes.

Sources close to the chief minister claimed that he had addressed 104 rallies and public meetings across Rajasthan. Of these, only 11 were in Jodhpur, reported NDTV.

“Mr Gehlot went for nominations of 22 candidates out of 25. He visited each constituency at least three times. In Jodhpur, he held only 11 meetings and went there for only 9 of the 52 days during the campaign from 14 March to 4 May.”

Ghelot who was present at the CWC Meet had said that the party president has the right to point out any shortcomings that may have happened during the campaign.

While both Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot were seen at Gandhi’s residence on Tuesday 28 May, their agenda of discussion was not clear.

The Congress in Rajasthan has called for a state executive meeting on Wednesday, 29 May, in which a resolution requesting Congress president Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his resignation is likely to be adopted.

The meeting will be attended by AICC general secretary in-charge of Rajasthan, Avinash Pande and AICC secretary, Vivek Bansal, Gehlot and Pilot, reported Hindustan Times.
