Hollywood's biggest stars came together once again for the vibrant Critics Choice Awards 2018 after the Golden Globe Awards 2018 this week, which was dominated by politics, bold statements and a black dress code for solidarity.
Hosted by Olivia Munn, the ceremony took place in Santa Monica. She raised a toast with Niecy Nash “to all the good guys in Hollywood”, who held meetings in conference rooms rather than hotel rooms. Resonating the climate of the Golden Globes 2018, the Time’s Up initiative and everything it stands for took centre-stage at this event too. Vociferous personalities addressed gender equality.
Though James Franco won the acting award for The Disaster Artist, he did not attend the event in the wake of the sexual misconduct accusations levelled against him by some actors on social media.
“I want to share this award with all the women and men who stand for what’s right, standing for those who can’t stand or speak for themselves. My promise to you is: I will never be silenced. We will continue to band together to make strides, uniting for equality.”Gal Gadot said while accepting the second annual #SeeHer award.
“Let’s not lose focus, let’s keep this going.”Rachel Brosnahan, who won best actress in a TV comedy on the Time’s Up initiative.
“I’d like to thank all the white men who allowed us to stand here today. Men have been talking too much for centuries. We need to shut up, listen and amplify.”Kumail Nanjiani after The Big Sick won the Best Picture prize.
Here’s a complete list of the winners of the night. Narratives of women, and by women were conspicuous by their wins at this awards show as well. Many of the winners from the Golden Globes 2018 held on to their winning streak at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2018.
