“I live my life a quarter mile at a time,” says Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) in the very first edition of the Fast and Furious franchise. But that quarter mile has now gone on for miles and miles, with the cars in every edition getting even faster and more furious.
Fast and Furious 8 – The Fate of the Furious released this weekend, and true to expectations, it features some hyper-modified cars doing some pretty incredulous stuff stretching from Cuba to Iceland. So just what do these cars look like in real life?
In the 8th edition of the movie, Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel is again driving a Dodge Charger. But this time, the car is highly modified to drive on ice. Actually, it was custom built for the movie and features a Chevrolet V8 motor under the hood, putting out 554 bhp of power and features all-wheel drive with spiked tyres.
In the early part of the movie, Diesel is also seen driving a beaten up 1951 Chevrolet Fleetline that he “modifies” by making it lighter and rigging up a NOS kit.
Another car that Diesel drives is the Plymouth GTX, seen here. The actual GTX has a 7.2 litre V8 engine, but the one in the movie was custom built.
The new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon makes an appearance in the movie as well. This car has a 6.2 litre V8 engine that puts out 840 bhp of power and can go from 0-100 kmph in just 2.3 seconds! And as Dom wanted a “sub-10 second car”, this stock car can do the quarter-mile in just 2.3 seconds.
Dom’s love interest Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) in the movie is seen driving a modified Local Motors Rally Fighter, which itself is already a custom car with a 6.2 litre V8 engine putting out 430 bhp of power.
Rodriguez is also seen driving a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette StingRay in one of the sequences.
The movie also features a highly-modified Bentley Continental driven by Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson).
In another scene shot in Iceland, Roman is driving a Lamborghini Murcielago. This car is no longer in production having been replaced by the Lamborghini Aventador S.
The other cars in the movie include a Jaguar F-Type, driven by Ian Shaw (Jason Statham) who plays a Briton in the movie. There’s also a Mercedes Benz AMG GT as well as a customised Subaru BR-Z.
Tell us what else you could spot in the movie.
