... and Salman won’t get to say ‘Ooi maa’ either. Rajkumar Santoshi has a mammoth task at hand as he conceptualises a ‘worthy’ sequel to his cult film Andaz Apna Apna (1994). But he’s clear on one thing, his original male leads, Aamir and Salman Khan, won’t be in the new age version.
The filmmaker told DNA in a recent interview that Aamir and Salman have lost the innocence they had back in the 90s and that if they were to play those characters today, it will look forced.
For humour, you need innocence. That time, these actors (Salman Khan and Aamir Khan) had the innocence. Now, it will look forced. It looks cute if a 20 year old is chasing a girl. A 45-50 year old man chasing young girls looks vulgar.Rajkumar Santoshi, Filmmaker
Santoshi also says that the sequel should be able to stand its own ground, instead of just riding on the successful original.
I want to make a worthy successor. What other filmmakers do is en-cash on a successful film’s title, whether there is a story or not. I can’t cheat people with the title. The day I’m satisfied with the subject being the worthy successor, I will get on the floor with the movie.Rajkumar Santoshi
But Santoshi is not worried. He reportedly believes that the industry has a great pool of fresh talent to choose from. Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan, are you listening?
