Dimple Kapadia turns 60 this year. Can you believe that it’s been 44 years since she first appeared on the big screen? Her debut film, Bobby (1973), with Rishi Kapoor, established her as Bollywood’s most exciting young face. Fans flocked to the theatres to catch a glimpse of her, while her outfits in the film made her a fashion icon overnight. Bobby went on to gain cult status, and everyone was sure Dimple was the next big thing in tinsel town. But she took a hiatus, only to return to the screen over a decade later with Saagar (1985).
On her birthday, The Quint reached out to Dimple fans to crowdsource some nostalgia.
“She was bold for her time,” says one fan, while another remembers the time she was barred from watching Bobby as her family thought it to be “too adult”.
With over 80 films and several awards under her belt, Dimple is as magnetic on screen today as she was in her first film.
Happy Birthday, Dimple Kapadia!
