As we all know by now, Baahubali: The Conclusion is no ordinary film. The sequel has a reputation to live up to, not just in terms of content but also the kind of money it will make at the box-office. According to reports, this SS Rajamouli film will open in no less than 9000 screens worldwide. The break-up of this figure is as follows:
- 6500 screens in India
- 1100 screens in the USA
- 1400 screens in the rest of the world
Baahubali: The Beginning had released in just over 3600 screens in India in 2015.
The sequel is also releasing in IMAX theatres worldwide and around 40 IMAX screens in the US have already been booked for this epic period drama.
This historic, record-breaking figure of over 9000 screens would also mean that Baahubali 2 could be looking at a monstrous first day opening collection at the box-office. According to a report in Firstpost, this is how much distributors have coughed up for the theatrical rights of the sequel.
Theatrical Rights of Baahubali 2
- Andhra Pradesh + Telengana = Rs 130 crore
- Tamil Nadu = Rs 40 crore
- Karnataka = Rs 45 crore
- Kerala = Rs 13 crore
The theatrical rights for the Hindi film market remain with Karan Johar, who is also the presenter of the Hindi version of Baahubali 2.
The money earned by the satellite rights of the Prabhas, Rana Daggubati-starrer are also worth a mention. Sony TV has reportedly picked up the Hindi language TV rights of Baahubali 2 for Rs 51 crore, while the Sun TV network is in talks to buy the rights of all the 4 south Indian language versions for as much as Rs 80 crore.
Baahubali: The Beginning is said to have made around Rs 650 crore at the box-office, and film trade pundits are saying they won’t be surprised if the sequel grosses Rs 1000 crore.
