Battling the odds in a society filled with stereotypical mindsets against women is not only outrageously agonising, but also disgraceful. And when that happens, Twinkle Khanna for one is sure to speak up. Taking off from the recent allegations against TVF founder Arunabh Kumar, Twinkle shared her views on what it’s like to not be spared by chauvinist masculinity, despite having the starry cloud. The unabashed blogger and author says “it’s okay to croak in the bedroom but not in the boardroom”.
Undermining the Purpose of a Woman
Twinkle makes an impressive point by emphasising how the word ‘sexy’ used in a professional environment simply undermines everything a woman has worked hard to achieve on her own merit. Coming to the question of identity, she has no qualms in naming the alleged "corner office frogs”- Arunabh Kumar, RK Pachauri, Tarun Tejpal and Phaneesh Murthy. All that should matter at a place of work, boring as it may be, is a woman’s work.
The Frogs Spare Nobody
In a post that went all out with her views on corporate sexual harassment, Twinkle also revealed that despite being a strong, assertive woman, and having an action hero for a husband, she had been a victim too. Mrs Funnybones candidly shares that she had been “caught between their webbed feet” a few years ago, when she received suggestive messages from a powerful client. But she shudders at the thought of what regular women have to put up with, if even the celebrities have it tough.
Better Places To Call A Girl “Sexy”
At her sarcastic best, Twinkle has a message for the “Frogs Forever Franchise". She suggests that bars, clubs, house parties, Tinder, and a cousin’s wedding could potentially be better suited for asking a girl out, rather than the office corridors. But she also gives men out there an important tip- if at all you fancy your colleague, ask her respectfully for a drink, but if she says no, leave her alone.
Compliment Her Work, Not Her Looks
Twinkle leaves her male readers with a gem- compliment a female colleague for her work, not her legs.
Telling a woman she is sexy in the bedroom is fine, telling her the same thing in the boardroom simply deplorable. So think before you croak or it may just be your turn to be doused in formaldehyde and dissected next.Twinkle Khanna, Author & Blogger (The Times Of India)
For the uninitiated, Twinkle’s post was in response to the following statement by the TVF founder, which he made in his own defence.
Proud of his immensely talented wife, here’s how Akshay Kumar supported Twinkle’s take-
Twitterati lauded the former actress too in a series of tweets:
