Every day the internet is flooded with trending topics. Some are new, while some have been around for days. People like us furiously discuss, debate, post opinions and that’s how internet trends get created. The life of a trending topic completely depends on how well it resonates with people. The more they talk about a particular trend, the longer it continues to dominate our minds and internet timelines.
One such recent trend was when cricketer Ravindra Jadeja tweeted about breaking the beard and changing his look. The video posted along with the tweet shows Jadeja trading his bearded look for a cleaner one.
The thing that struck me about the trend was the word ‘break’. Now it’s not exactly a word you associate with beards. However, I didn’t dwell a lot on it till I saw other cricketers dive right in as well.
As the buzz grew stronger, more cricketers joined in.
The latest one to get rid of his facial fuzz is Zaheer Khan.
Now, you know a trending topic is really popular when the excitement shifts from celebrities to regular users and that’s exactly what happened with this. Thousands of youth from across India, including small towns, took to social media to flaunt their mini makeovers.
In a country that sees so much hero-worship, where fans love to blindly imitate their idols, here was something that was encouraging people to do their own thing, try out different styles and create their unique identities. However, it remains to be seen if this is a trend that will last or was it just a fad that came and went away, never to come again.
