Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Allahabad and Phulpur on Thursday during Phase 2 of his kisan yatra. Phulpur has special significance for Congress, as it was the constituency of India’s first Prime Minister and Rahul’s great-grandfather Jawahar Lal Nehru.
However, no Congress candidate has been able to win the election in Allahabad or Phulpur since 1984. Rahul Gandhi will attempt to reclaim Allahabad through his rally. The Quint spoke to students of Allahabad University and tried to find out what is on their minds regarding the Congress’ kisan yatra.
The students felt that the Congress vice-president is undergoing a perception problem as most of the people on social media think of him as a joke. They also felt that although Rahul is working hard at image makeover, it remains to be seen how seriously people take him.
Some students also highlighted the need to woo the young voters as they form a considerable chunk of the state’s electorate.
