She has been breaking the internet with her hugely viral Kodaikal Won’t rap video. And now The Quint finds out what Sophia Ashraf is really all about. From being the ideal Mallu Muslim girl to giving up religion and shaving her head off, this rebel heart tells us her story and what she really believes in.

Her viral video against Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) has brought the corporate giant under the scanner and has made Sofia a rapper of social causes. Her protest rap even made Paul Poleman, Unilever CEO, defend his company. Sofia reacts to his tweet in this video and hopes that HUL will stick to international standards of cleaning up it’s act.

Since 2001, when HUL, Unilever’s Indian subsidiary, was asked by the Tamil Nadu state pollution control board to shut down its mercury thermometer manufacturing plant in Kodaikanal, several NGOs and activists have demanded that the multinational should clean up the mercury contamination and compensate the 1,045 workers affected by mercury poisoning. Unilever has reportedly ignored their concerns. But Sofia’s video has changed all that!
