India’s NSG Membership Was Never on the Agenda: China’s Negotiator

Wang Qun said that China will oppose India’s bid for admission to the NSG until they become NPT signatories.

Lead negotiator for China to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Wang Qun, speaking to the media on Thursday, revealed that there was failure in reaching consensus over admitting NPT (nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) non-signatories during the NSG plenary meeting in Seoul, and as a result, India’s membership bid to the NSG will not be taken up for now.

Making its stance clear on the issue, Wang added that China will oppose Pakistan and India’s bid for admission to the NSG until they become NPT signatories.
