In a candid discussion with Raghav Bahl, Founder of Quintillion Media Pvt Ltd and Editor-in-Chief of The Quint, US Ambassador to India Richard R Verma talked about his roots in Jalandhar, Punjab.

He mentioned the difference between when he lived with his grandmother in Basti Sheikh as a 7-year-old and now, saying that there used to be livestock and farm animals just across the road.

He also talked about how returning to India as the US Ambassador was emotional because it was proof that the hard work his parents put in for their children had borne fruit.

Though he can’t speak Punjabi, he says he understands it and that his favourite foods are butter chicken, dal makhani and biryani.
