Bhumata Brigade chief Trupti Desai, along with other women activists, offered prayers in the inner sanctum of Nashik’s Trimbakeshwar temple, where the entry of women in the sanctum sanctorum was prohibited for ages.

Desai’s entry into the inner sanctum comes a day after activists, led by Vanita Gutte of Pune-based Swarajya Mahila Sanghatana, offered prayer inside the ‘garbha griha’ of the shrine, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the 12 ‘Jyotirlingas’ in the country.

Bhumata Brigade activists have been protesting the ban on women entering the inner sanctum of temples.
