The Quint's election coverage reaches Bihar's Patna to speak to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

When asked about the absence of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav in this election, Tejashwi said,

“It is the country’s most important election in an independent India. His absence is being felt. Political vendetta has resulted in him being imprisoned in Ranchi. I was not even allowed to meet my ill father in the hospital despite following all the rules. Lalu ji is being treated very inhumanely; our family is worried about him. Nitish Kumar and the BJP are physically and mentally torturing Lalu ji, just for political reasons.”

Tejashwi Yadav has been criticised by his political rivals for apparent lack of experience in managing the RJD. Responding to the criticism, Tejashwi said:

“I don’t know who says what. Even the NDA could not be managed well, whether Amit Shah or Narendra Modi was at its helm. There is talk doing the rounds within the BJP that Nitish ji has been given 17 seats. If he wins even one among these seats, what is the guarantee that he will stay in NDA?”
