On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj agreed to a debate over her alleged role in the Lalit Modi controversy.

She urged the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to take up the Congress adjournment motion which the latter had earlier rejected.

Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, however, stated:

We don’t want the External Affairs Minister to respond to the motion. We want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak.
