Muneer, the mastermind in the murder case of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmad has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Noida.
Motorcycle-borne assailants had pumped 24 bullets into 45-year-old Ahmad and four into his wife Farzana Khatoon in April. Tanzil Ahmad had died on the spot and his wife succumbed later to the grievous injuries.
The accused had followed Ahmad – who was returning home to Sahaspur village, Bijnor district with his family after attending his niece’s wedding in another village – on the intervening night of April 2 and 3 and shot pointblank at the couple.
So far four persons – Rizvan, Tanzeem, Rehan and Zainuld – have been arrested by the police in connection with the NIA officer’s murder. With Muneer’s arrest, the police hope to make a breakthrough and learn why an officer like Ahmad – who was handling several high profile probes such as the Pathankot attack etc – had been targeted.
