A 21-year-old school teacher named Karuna was stabbed to death by Surendar Singh in Delhi’s Sant Nagar Burari region at 9am on Tuesday, the police said.
After being stabbed over 22 times in the face and torso by Singh, the teacher at Novel Reaches School was declared dead on arrival at the Sushruta Trauma Centre.
Following the attack, the 34-year-old accused was thrashed by the locals before being arrested.
The CCTV camera captured the gruesome and frenzied attack. Viewer discretion is advised.
Karuna’s family members protested outside Sushruta Trauma Centre near Delhi Civil Lines. Her family members have blocked the traffic on the road outside the trauma centre.
Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of police, North Delhi, said that Singh stabbed Karuna as revenge as she was in love with someone else.
Singh had been stalking Karuna for over a year, prompting her family to lodge a complaint against him 4-5 months ago, according to DCP. However, their families had reached a compromise, he said.
In the footage of the stabbing, Singh is seen scaring away a passer-by who tried to stop him. Another man who identified himself as Manish Kumar, caught hold of Singh and took her to the hospital.
A man who claimed to have tried to stop Singh from stabbing the woman, said that Singh started dancing after he was done.
