In an interview with The Quint, separatist leader and Chairperson of Jammu Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party (JKDLP) Hashim Qureshi shed light on Burhan Wani’s death and Kashmir’s issue. At 17, Qureshi hijacked a plane and was imprisoned for 9-and-a-half years. He was trained by a Pakistani pilot and given commander training in Pakistan.
Qureshi later gave up violence and chose the path of peace. He believes that violence is a disease and can never be the solution to any problem. While taking about the death of Burhan Wani he said that the police could have chosen to arrest him as he was unarmed and was playing cricket. Yet they chose to shoot him.
Qureshi also spoke about the issue of Kashmiri Pandits and the how Muslims in Kashmir live in peace and harmony with the Pandits. All Kashmiri Pandits are of Kashmiri Pandit ancestry, says Qureshi. He added that all Kashmiri’s want is Hari Singh’s 1947 princely state restored, which includes Gilgit starting from Demchok to Lakhmipur.
