India has seen a rapid rise in... rape cases.

Every time there’s a rape in the country, our politicians throw some gems of wisdom to make us feel better and safer. Their profound and scientific statements become a joke on social media and our accomplished leaders are ridiculed despite being so efficient and sensitive. Is it because we always fail to understand what they really mean?

We got actors Richa Chadha and Rahul Bhat to decode some of these gems. We wanted to dive deep to come up with more such pearls, but there were simply too many. And there’s only that much wisdom we could handle.

Since it wasn’t possible to put it all in one video, here are some more treasures from our esteemed leaders on why and how rapes occur.

“I have no hesitation in saying that about 90 per cent of the girls consensually go with men and become targets of rape.”
Dharamveer Goyat, Hisar Congress

Yes, of course. Women in our country consent to rape, they are only “forced” into marriage.

“Women are equally responsible for crimes committed against them. Women display their bodies and indulge in various obscene activities. Women are unaware of the kind of message their actions generate.”
Vibha Rao, chair of the Chhattisgarh State Women Commission

That makes perfect sense. Where can women buy rape-proof clothes? Amazon or Flipkart?

“Male pigeons always chase female pigeons. It’s an animal instinct.”
Kiran Bedi, BJP Leader and former IPS officer

Thank you for that important lesson in zoology. When a guy teases a girl, should she just sing, “kabootar ja ja” and that should do the job?

“Should rape cases lead to hanging? Boys are boys, they make mistakes. Two or three have been given the death sentence in Mumbai. We will try and change such laws... we will also ensure punishment of those who report false cases.”
Mulayam Singh Yadav, Samajwadi Party

Logic: Boys are boys, they will rape. Girls can commit suicide if they don’t like being raped, why should men be hanged for the same?

Not even God can prevent rapes.
Aziz Qureshi, Governor, Mizoram

Lesson of the day: When everything else fails, leave it Bhagwaan Bharose.
