Pakistani cinemas have stopped screening Indian films after India banned Pakistani actors from its movie industry amid soaring tensions between the two nuclear-armed rivals over Kashmir.
The decision was made by cinema owners on Friday night following the adoption of a resolution of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association ordering local filmmakers to stop hiring Pakistani actors and technicians.
The move was also welcomed by Pakistani cinema goers, as they expressed disappointment over what they assumed were hostilities and aggression from the Indian side.
“India has been making threats like closing off Pakistan’s water supply, start an all-out war (starting from Kashmir), and threatening Pakistani artists who are in India. This is unacceptable,” said Muhammad Rasheed, echoing the widespread resentment of his fellow film lovers.
