It’s new year and ending the year-long suspense, superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday, 31 December, announced his political debut.
"I am joining politics for sure," the 67-year-old said amid thunderous applause from fans.
Hundreds of fans burst crackers and distributed sweets after the actor announced his entry into politics.
The ‘Thalaivar’ said he would be floating his own political party ahead of the next Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. He aims to contest the election in all 234 constituencies of the state.
Various celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, gave their best wishes to the Tamil superstar.
Haasan posted, "I welcome brother Rajini's social responsibility and political entry."
The Kabali actor said to a rapturous crowd:
The superstar has been meeting fans all week and has been teasing his entry into politics since the 90s. "Do good, speak good and only good will happen," will be the guiding slogan of his party, he said.
