Addressing the nation in his 47th edition of monthly podcast, Mann ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, 26 August wished heartiest greetings to the citizens on the festive occasions of Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami.
From his residence in Lok Kalyan Marg, Modi celebrated Raksha Bandha with children. A Pakistani-origin woman, Qamar Mohsin Shaikh also paid Modi a visit on this occasion and tied him a rakhi.
Speaking to ANI, Qamar said,
On Raksha Bandhan, other leaders of the country were too seen celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters.
Wishing the nation on the occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind wishing via Twitter said, “may the spirit of this festival strengthen fraternal feelings and inspire us to live in a society defined by universal respect for the security and dignity of women, especially of girl children.”
Vice president Venkaiah Naidu got a rakhi tied by Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj. The Vice President also tied a rakhi to Swaraj.
Naidu was also paid a visit at his residence from children of over 100 schools.
In Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district, the Indian army was visited by the local women to celebrate Raksha Bandhan.
