This time, the Varanasi Body Elections are not just political. In ward number 27, the Birdopur seat is reserved for women and two sisters-in-law, Shweta and Ritu Pandey, are battling for it.

While Shweta Pandey is contesting from Samajwadi Party, Ritu Pandey is standing as a Congress candidate. But the most interesting part for the voters is that the mother is supporting her daughter-in-law instead of her daughter.

For the two candidates, the situation is nothing like the Saas-Bahu soaps. Unlike Hindi TV serials, these two women share a bond of mutual respect.

Their occasional banters and squabbles, however, have become the talk of the town. Voting will be held on Sunday, 26 November, for the second phase of the municipal body elections. This includes 6 Municipal Corporations, 51 Municipal Corporations and 132 Nagar Panchayats from 25 Districts.
